FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. — Kenneth Washington Jr., 36, of Hemingway, was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old child.

The incident occurred Saturday night on Midway Highway in Johnsonville. Deputies responded after the child, identified as Antonio Kamani Burgess II, was brought to Johnsonville Rescue Squad with gunshot wounds.

Kenneth Washington Jr. reportedly drove a co-defendant to the crime scene and was present during the shooting that killed the toddler. He later helped remove the co-defendant from the location and did not contact law enforcement or provide aid to the victim.

Meanwhile, Joseph Waterman Jr., 34, is still wanted for murder in this case.

Washington Jr. is being held at Florence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing as the investigation continues.
