BENTON, IL – A 29-year-old wanted man, Keith E. Redmon Jr., was arrested Tuesday, March 25, following a stabbing, a stolen vehicle crash, and an aggravated battery case.
Arrest & Investigation
Redmon Jr. was found and arrested without incident in the area of North Grand and Joplin Street after an extensive search. He was booked into Franklin County Jail on charges of aggravated battery and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Stabbing Incident
Authorities responded to a stabbing report at 1:57 a.m. Tuesday on the 1000 block of Enterprise Street. Upon arrival, officers found a victim with a stab wound to the lower chest. The victim, before being airlifted to a trauma center, identified Redmon Jr. as the attacker. The victim is now reported to be in stable condition.
Stolen Vehicle Crash
Just hours before the stabbing, officers responded to a crash at Webster Street and South Main around 11:30 p.m. Monday. Redmon Jr. was identified as one of the drivers but fled the scene before officers arrived. Investigators later confirmed that the vehicle he was driving was reported stolen from Williamson County. Other crash victims were hospitalized, but their conditions remain unclear.
Ongoing Investigation
Redmon Jr. was also a person of interest in an aggravated battery case from March 20. Police had been searching for him since Friday.
The Benton Police Department led the arrest with support from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, West City Police, Illinois State Police, and Franklin County Emergency Management Agency.
Authorities continue to investigate, and additional charges may follow.
