BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY) – Keith and Sheryl Duncan of Denham Springs were arrested by the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation on charges of defrauding Medicaid of more than $133,000 by concealing their marriage.
Authorities allege that from November 2021 to October 2024, the couple underreported their combined income and provided false information about their marital status and household earnings to qualify for Medicaid benefits.
Attorney General Liz Murrill commented on the arrests, saying, “Last week we arrested the ‘Medicaid Millionaire’ from Slidell; today we arrested the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ from Denham Springs, who kept their marriage a secret to defraud hardworking Louisiana taxpayers of over $130,000.”
Following arrest warrants issued by the 19th Judicial District Court, the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation took the Duncans into custody without incident at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Sheryl Duncan faces one count of Government Benefits Fraud with a $5,000 bond, while Keith Duncan faces three counts with a $12,000 bond.
The investigation began after a referral from the Louisiana Department of Health and is ongoing. The arrest underscores the state’s commitment to pursuing those who misuse government programs, ensuring aid goes only to those who truly qualify.
