The Palakkad Cyber Police have arrested Keisham Ningthemjao Singh, a resident of Manipur and former Congress ticket aspirant from the Andro Assembly constituency, in connection with an alleged online trading scam that defrauded a Kerala-based businessman of Rs 1.84 crore.
Investigators said the fraud took place between August and November 2025. The accused, along with associates, allegedly targeted a native of Mannarkkad by promising high returns through online share trading platforms.
According to police, the victim was initially contacted through WhatsApp and encouraged to invest small sums via links provided by the fraudsters. Early transactions reportedly generated quick but modest returns, creating a sense of legitimacy and gradually building trust.
Once the victim gained confidence in the scheme, he was persuaded to transfer significantly larger amounts. Authorities claim that a total of Rs 1,84,52,524 was funneled into multiple bank accounts allegedly operated by Singh and his network.
Officials further disclosed that Singh is facing five additional cheating cases registered in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala, suggesting the possibility of a wider interstate fraud syndicate.
Cybercrime officials have reiterated their warning to the public to remain vigilant while investing through online trading schemes promoted on social media and messaging platforms. They cautioned that scammers often employ calculated tactics to establish credibility before executing large-scale financial fraud.
