WASHINGTON, D.C. — Kazon Kassion, 25, of Washington, D.C., was arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading law enforcement on a dangerous high-speed chase through St. Mary’s and Charles counties on June 8, 2025.

Deputies were initially investigating a burglary in the Mechanicsville area around 6 a.m. when they learned that suspects matching the description of “Black males wearing all black” were fleeing. Deputy J. Morgan spotted a gray Honda sedan speeding northbound near Three Notch Road and New Market Road. Upon confirming the vehicle matched the suspect car, Deputy Morgan activated emergency lights and pursued the driver, later identified as Kassion.

The suspect allegedly refused to stop, driving over 100 mph while weaving through traffic and ignoring traffic signals. The chase entered Charles County, where officers deployed stop sticks, deflating the Honda’s tires. The vehicle came to a stop near Leonardtown Road and Maryland Route 488, and Kassion was taken into custody without further incident.

Investigation revealed the 2019 Honda Accord had been stolen from Washington, D.C., and displayed a license plate registered to a different car. Kassion was booked into the St. Mary’s County Detention Center after identification was confirmed via a booking photo from the Metropolitan Police Department.

At his initial court appearance, Kassion waived his right to an attorney and was informed of his charges. The court found a reasonable likelihood he might fail to appear and ordered him held without bond.

Kassion faces two felony charges—motor vehicle theft and theft of property valued between $1,500 and $25,000—plus 13 traffic-related offenses. These include driving without a license, reckless driving, speeding up to 120 mph in a 55 mph zone, attempting to elude police, and multiple traffic violations such as unsafe lane changes and failure to yield.

Previously residing on Delafield Place in D.C., Kassion reported no fixed address but stated he works full-time earning $20 per hour.

His next court date is July 22, 2025, at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s District Court.
