Suspect called police after taking unattended car

by Sophia Bennett

NEW CASTLE, Del. — A stolen car investigation in Delaware ended with the arrest of 21-year-old Kayonne Baxter after he reportedly called police on himself.

Authorities were first notified on Tuesday about a stolen Hyundai Sonata on Fairway Road in Hunters Crossing. The vehicle’s owner said they had left the car running and unattended when it was taken.

The following day, Baxter contacted police, admitting he had taken the car. He said the stolen Hyundai had been towed and wanted to retrieve items left inside.

Baxter was later arrested on the same street where the vehicle was stolen. The Hyundai was recovered from a local towing company.

He has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, a felony, and was arraigned before being released.
