WILKES-BARRE TWP., Luzerne Co., Pa. — A woman is facing multiple charges after township police say she shoplifted at a local Target and was later found with suspected methamphetamine while providing a false identity.
Kaylee Elizabeth Appleton was reported by Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department after officers were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. on February 12 for a retail theft in progress. Loss prevention staff reported stopping Appleton after she allegedly concealed merchandise in her bag and passed all points of sale without paying.
When officers arrived, they observed Appleton with the unpaid store merchandise. She initially resisted store security but complied once officers made contact.
Authorities said Appleton provided a false name and date of birth, using her sister’s identity. During the recovery of the merchandise, officers found a small baggie containing a substance Appleton claimed was baking soda. Field tests later confirmed the substance was methamphetamine.
After being handcuffed, Appleton admitted her true identity. Records revealed she had an active arrest warrant from Columbia County for a prior retail theft.
Appleton was transported to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility and is expected to face charges including retail theft, providing false identification to law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance, and charges related to the outstanding warrant.
