SALINE COUNTY, Kan. — Authorities arrested 32-year-old Kayla Errebo following a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed 55-year-old Deanna Sommerfield on August 8, 2025.
Sommerfield, known to family and friends as “June,” was driving with her husband on K-140 when Errebo, suspected of driving under the influence, collided head-on with their vehicle. Sommerfield’s friends describe her as “everything” and “truly special,” mourning the tragic loss.
Errebo is scheduled for her first court appearance on Tuesday, August 12, in Saline County. Court records reveal a troubling history of repeated DUI offenses. In January 2024, Errebo was arrested for DUI and tampering with an ignition interlock device. On June 27, 2024, she was arrested again for DUI, fleeing an officer, driving without a license, and violating ignition interlock laws. She pleaded guilty in October 2024 and received probation through November 2025.
On the day of the crash, Errebo was arrested again for DUI, failure to report an injury accident, circumventing an ignition interlock device, and probation violation. Tragically, this latest incident resulted in the death of Sommerfield.
Friends urge the public to never drink and drive, emphasizing the irreversible consequences of such choices. They have started a GoFundMe to assist with Deanna’s funeral expenses and her husband Mark Sommerfield’s medical bills.
