Kayla Collinsworth, a 35-year-old woman from Raleigh, was arrested and charged with felony intentional child abuse following allegations that she injured her 15-year-old child. The Raleigh Police Department confirmed the arrest on Friday.
According to the arrest warrant, Collinsworth caused physical harm to the minor, who suffered a bite mark on the right cheek and back of the neck, a swollen and cut nose, as well as red marks on the neck and chest. The assault reportedly resulted in long-lasting mental and emotional impairment for the child.
The warrant also states that Collinsworth is the parent of the victim. She is currently being held on a $1 million bond.
Her next court hearing is scheduled for Thursday, August 14, at 2 p.m.
