Dallas Cowboys All-Pro return specialist KaVontae Turpin, 28, was arrested over the weekend in Allen, Texas, on charges of marijuana possession and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
According to reports from the Allen Police Department, Turpin was taken into custody on Friday, though the exact circumstances of the arrest have not yet been made public.
He faces two misdemeanor charges — possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon. As of Sunday afternoon, records showed Turpin was still being held in Collin County Jail with bond set at $1,500.
Turpin, a dynamic return man and wide receiver, has been a standout for the Cowboys since joining the team in 2022. He earned All-Pro honors in 2024 and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2022 and 2024. Earlier this year, he signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the team.
The former TCU standout has had past legal troubles. In 2018, he was kicked off the TCU football team after multiple domestic violence charges. He later pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend and was also arrested for battery the same year.
Before his NFL success, Turpin starred in the USFL, where he was named league MVP in 2022.
As of now, the Dallas Cowboys organization has not commented publicly on Turpin’s arrest.
