School Lecturer Arrested for Buying Leaked Economics Paper for Rs25 Lakh"

In a significant development in the 2022 Rajasthan School Lecturer (Economics) exam paper leak case, the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested Kavita Lakhera, a school lecturer, on Saturday. Lakhera, who had been on the run since her brother’s earlier arrest in connection with the same scam, was apprehended after it was revealed that she had paid Rs25 lakh to gain access to the leaked exam paper.

Kavita Lakhera, aged 35, had secured the 20th position in the merit list, using the leaked paper to her advantage. She had been selected for a teaching position at Government Senior Secondary School in Beawar’s Jawaja block, based on her exam score. Kavita appeared for the exam after preparing from the solved question paper, which was distributed to her through a well-organized nexus involving her brother, Deepak Lakshkar, and several middlemen.

According to SOG officials, Deepak had been arrested earlier for his role in facilitating the leak. Kavita’s payment was made in two parts—Rs12 lakh on the day of the exam and Rs13 lakh after her selection. The family reportedly sold a plot of land to fund this payment.

SOG Additional Director General, V.K. Singh, confirmed that the leaked paper was part of a larger network, and Kavita had been in contact with Omprakash Gurjar, Ganpat Vishnoi, Ram Ratan, Ramchandra Meena, and Purushottam Lakhera, who were involved in the operation. The SOG also uncovered evidence from mobile chat histories that led to the identification of other individuals linked to the scam.

The SOG’s investigation began after intelligence inputs raised concerns about irregularities in the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) exam held on October 15–16, 2022. Following a detailed probe, an FIR was filed on April 10, 2025, confirming that the exam paper had been leaked before the exam. The case has uncovered significant flaws in the recruitment system, and further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
