Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force has arrested a member of an interstate narcotics smuggling network in Lucknow, seizing 7.75 quintals of ganja with an estimated market value of around Rs2 crore.
The accused has been identified as Kaushal Kumar, a resident of Muradpur village in Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The arrest took place after officers intercepted a DCM truck in the Nigohan area late Wednesday.
Police recovered the ganja concealed inside a specially modified cavity within the vehicle. Two mobile phones were also seized from the accused. The operation was led by STF Deputy SP Deepak Kumar Singh, following intelligence that a truck carrying ganja from Odisha was heading toward Lucknow.
During interrogation, Kaushal Kumar reportedly revealed that the consignment was part of a larger trafficking network allegedly operated by Samarjit alias Sonu Gupta, Mayank Kumar Gupta, and Syed Dawar Alvi. He admitted to transporting similar consignments for the gang several times in the past and stated that he was paid approximately Rs50,000 per trip.
A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the interstate narcotics network.
