Tension gripped Katni in Madhya Pradesh after the broad daylight killing of Bajrang Dal activist Nilesh Rajak, followed by the alleged suicide of the father of one of the suspected assailants.
The 35-year-old activist, a former Gau Seva Pramukh (Cow Protection Chief) of Katni district, was reportedly shot near a bank in Vijayraghogarh around 10:30 am on Wednesday.
Police later arrested two suspects, identified as Akram Khan and Prince Joseph, following an early morning encounter. They are currently being interrogated by senior officials. The motive behind the murder remains under investigation.
In a shocking turn, the father of one suspect allegedly died by suicide, further deepening the mystery surrounding the incident.
District administration, led by School Education Minister Uaday Pratap Singh, rushed to the spot to manage the situation. Senior police officials, forensic experts, and teams collected spent shells, tyre marks, and CCTV footage from nearby shops to piece together the crime.
Following the incident, the Katni district administration imposed prohibitory orders to prevent any law and order breakdown. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who was in Bihar, instructed authorities via X to take strict action against those taking the law into their hands, emphasizing that no criminal would be spared.
