Katie Venis, 33, of Meadgate Avenue, was arrested after stealing meat from her local Co-op in January. She was later tracked down in Chelmsford city centre, where officers found her carrying Class A drugs.
This incident followed seven previous theft convictions dating back to September 2024, including three offences at John Lewis. She was also wanted for failing to attend a treatment session after testing positive for drug use.
As a result, Venis has been issued a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), which prohibits her from possessing drug paraphernalia in public or entering Co-op, Tesco, John Lewis, or the High Chelmer shopping centre.
Breaching this CBO is a criminal offence that could lead to her arrest and a potential prison sentence.
Sergeant Graham Thomas of Chelmsford’s Neighbourhood Policing Team stated:
“Venis’s repeated offences left us with no choice but to apply for a CBO to restrict her ability to steal or engage in anti-social behavior. If she breaches the order, we will act swiftly.”
He emphasized the link between shoplifting, drug use, and anti-social behavior, noting that police work closely with CCTV operators and store security teams to catch offenders.
“If you see someone stealing or engaging in anti-social behavior, report it, and we will take action,” he added.
