A 73-year-old woman from Pueblo, Colorado, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the second-degree murder of her husband.
Kathy Lawton was convicted in December 2025 for the November 2024 stabbing death of 85-year-old Larry Lawton. Investigators said Larry Lawton was found deceased at the Bonaventure Assisted Living Center after Kathy Lawton informed staff of his death.
Police records indicate that officers noted the smell of alcohol on Kathy Lawton’s breath and observed signs of intoxication when she was arrested at her home.
In addition to the prison sentence, the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said Lawton will serve five years of mandatory parole following her 20-year term.
