ALLEGHANY COUNTY, WV — The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kathleen Marie Davis, 22, and Corey Shane Martin, 23, early Dec. 10 in connection with a string of mailbox thefts in western Alleghany County.

Sheriff Kyle Moore said several residents had reported missing mail and packages on social media, prompting overnight surveillance. Around 2 a.m., off-duty Lieutenant Doug Altizer spotted a suspicious white sedan at a mailbox near his home. He followed the vehicle and coordinated a felony traffic stop near Jackson River Road and Foxaway Lane.

Both Davis and Martin admitted to stealing mail in the Alleghany Highlands for at least two weeks, citing financial difficulties. Deputies recovered multiple stolen packages, mail, and $413 in cash from their vehicle.

The pair now face 17 felony counts of mail theft. Investigators from the U.S. Postal Service and regional authorities are continuing their probe. Both remain in custody at the Alleghany County Regional Jail.

Residents with missing mail are urged to contact the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office at 540-965-1770, ext. 106.
