ANDERSON, S.C. – A board member of a local veterans’ charity has been arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the organization, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified the suspect as 39-year-old Katherine Brooke Farmer of Anderson, a board member of Vets Helping Vets Anderson. Investigators say Farmer began misusing the organization’s funds in April, eventually stealing more than $17,000 in total.
Detectives uncovered that Farmer allegedly spent the nonprofit’s money on retail, medical, and other personal expenses. She was charged with Breach of Trust with Fraudulent Intent, a felony offense.
Officials say Farmer confessed to the theft and is currently being held at the Anderson County Detention Center pending further proceedings.
