Morgan City, La. (WAFB) – A former teacher in Morgan City is facing criminal charges after being accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student while the student was still a minor.
Katherine Ramerez Alberado, 30, was arrested on Tuesday, June 24, by the Morgan City Police Department. She is charged with sexual conduct between an educator and a student, along with indecent behavior with juveniles.
According to police, the St. Mary Parish School Board alerted law enforcement in mid-May after Morgan City High School administrators received a report about alleged misconduct involving Alberado and a former student. Investigators confirmed that the relationship allegedly began two years ago while the student was still enrolled at the school.
Authorities said evidence gathered during the investigation corroborated the allegations. School officials stated that Alberado was immediately placed on leave and resigned from her position just days later.
St. Mary Parish Superintendent Buffy Fegenbush released a statement acknowledging the investigation and reaffirming the district’s commitment to student safety.
Jail records show Alberado was released after posting a $60,000 bond. The case remains under investigation, and authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact the Morgan City Police Department’s investigation division.
