Katelynn Hipes Indicted in Kevin Small Murder

Charged with First-Degree Murder and Firearm Use

A grand jury in Nelson County, Virginia has indicted a woman in connection with a 2025 killing.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced that Katelynn Hipes has been charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Hipes is accused of killing Kevin Small, who was discovered in April 2025 by a FedEx driver on Serenity Drive. When found, Small had been shot in the chest and was sitting on a tractor unclothed.

Officials are now preparing to set a trial date as the case moves forward.
