In a major breakthrough, the Government Railway Police (GRP) Biaora arrested two more absconding members of an inter-state gang that stole jewellery from train passengers. The arrests, made in Uttarakhand, led to the recovery of stolen ornaments worth over Rs2.5 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Kasim alias Rohil (34) from Kunda in Udham Singh Nagar and Shan Ali (41). They were tracked down by a special team formed under GRP Indore SP Santosh Kori and additional SP Manisha Pathak Soni, based on technical surveillance and tip-offs.

The case originated on May 19, 2025, when a passenger reported the theft of a trolley bag containing gold and silver jewellery worth Rs17.7 lakh while traveling on the Bina–Nagda Express between Kumbhraj and Shajapur stations.

GRP’s investigation revealed that the gang operated in general coaches, mingling with unsuspecting passengers. They would engage travelers in conversation, use newspapers to obscure their actions, unzip bags, remove valuables, and re-zip them — leaving no immediate trace of the theft.

From Kasim, police recovered a gold armlet worth Rs2 lakh, while Shan Ali was found with a gold maang tika valued at Rs50,000. This comes after three other members of the same gang were earlier arrested.

Authorities have urged passengers to remain vigilant during train journeys, especially in crowded compartments, and to report suspicious activity to the nearest GRP personnel.
