In a significant land fraud case, former Talamadugu Sarpanch Karunakar Reddy was arrested for illegally acquiring 25 acres of government-assigned land using forged dependent certificates.
The land in question, located in Kazjarl village, was allotted to Ameenuddin Khan by the government in 1954. Ameenuddin had only one daughter, and the land remained unused for decades. In 2005, Karunakar Reddy allegedly forged a certificate falsely naming Sheikh Latif as Ameenuddin’s grandson, allowing the land to be fraudulently transferred to Latif.
To legitimize the transfer of this assigned land, an NOC was secured from the RDO in 2009, after which Karunakar Reddy registered the land in his own name within just four days.
The case resurfaced after Sheikh Latif’s death in 2022, when the true heirs of Ameenuddin Khan, now residing in Subhash Nagar, Adilabad, filed a complaint with the District Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhil Mahajan. A probe led by CI K Phanidhar of Adilabad Rural Police confirmed the use of fraudulent documents.
Authorities stressed the importance of proper verification when issuing dependent certificates and reaffirmed their commitment to preventing land scams.
Karunakar Reddy has been arrested and remanded, and further investigation is ongoing to trace other potential conspirators in the case.
