In a major crackdown, the Delhi Police have arrested two individuals for masterminding a multi-crore scam by posing as representatives of a fictitious government trust—Rashtriya Gramin Saksharta Mission (RGSM).
The accused, identified as Karunakar alias Ratnakar Upadhyay and Anita Upadhyay, created a fraudulent website and bank account to add legitimacy to their con. Through this setup, they convinced vendors and merchants to register and supply goods supposedly meant for underprivileged students under the RGSM banner.
The scam came to light after multiple complaints reached the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police. Following investigations, the duo were arrested on July 16 and July 21, respectively.
Authorities revealed that instead of using the funds for any charitable or educational purpose, the suspects siphoned the money for personal gain. Moreover, both have a history of similar fraudulent activities.
Police are continuing the investigation to trace additional victims and any possible accomplices involved in the operation.
