In a bizarre case of fraud, a man who allegedly posed as an IPS officer to dupe people with fake marriage proposals has been arrested by the Kalamassery police. The accused, Karthik Venugopal, also known as Vipin Karthik, is a 31-year-old resident of Malappuram.

The arrest came after a case was filed against him by the Kadugodi police in Bengaluru, where he had been running the scam. Kalamassery police, upon arresting him, handed him over to Bengaluru police to face charges in the city.

Karthik’s modus operandi involved creating fake profiles where he would present himself as an IPS officer. He used these fabricated identities to propose marriages, swindling his victims. Authorities are investigating whether more people have fallen prey to his fraudulent schemes.
