Bilikere police have arrested four youths—Karthik of Hunsur town, Kiran, Charan, and Manukumar—for allegedly abusing dogs. The arrests came after Kavya, a law practitioner and member of the Animal Defence Council in Bengaluru, lodged a zero FIR regarding the incident.
The accused have been booked under charges of mischief, rendering an animal useless under the BNS, and for cruelty under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
According to Kavya, she discovered video footage on WhatsApp and other social media platforms showing the youths assaulting a dog. She, along with Priyadarshini of the Animal Defence Council in Mysuru, investigated the matter and identified the accused.
The duo then coordinated with Bilikere police and arranged a meeting under the pretext of purchasing puppies from the accused at a Cafe Coffee Day near Bilikere, leading to their arrest. The case will now be transferred to Hunsur police for further action.
