Commissionerate police have arrested Karri Satti Babu, a notorious robber, in connection with a high-profile burglary at the residence of Odisha Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik in Bhubaneswar. The accused, also known by several aliases including Satheesh and Spider Satish, hails from Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. He was apprehended from the Vizianagaram-Vishakhapatnam region with assistance from local authorities.

The arrest comes 17 days after the robbery incident. Karri Satti Babu is a habitual interstate property criminal with over 100 cases registered across states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, and Odisha, including 11 convictions. He was recently released from Trivandrum Central Jail in September 2024, where he was held for crimes in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram Rural District. Additionally, he has faced charges under the Andhra Pradesh Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, targeting bootleggers, dacoits, drug offenders, and other criminal activities.

On the night of January 25, the accused allegedly broke into the master bedroom of Niranjan Patnaik’s house in VIP Colony, Nayapalli police limits, Bhubaneswar. He reportedly stole cash and gold jewelry valued at over Rs 50 lakh from the second floor, where former Odisha PCC President Niranjan Patnaik’s elder son, Devjyoti Patnaik, and his family reside.

Police continue their investigations into the case.
