Karl Johnson to Stand Trial for Fatal Workplace Shooting

Accused of Killing Former Co-worker in Harrison Township

by Sophia Bennett

A Southfield man accused of fatally shooting a former co-worker at a Harrison Township business will stand trial, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed.

Following a preliminary examination held Thursday at the 41B District Court in Clinton Township, a judge ruled there was sufficient evidence to bind over 28-year-old Karl Marcellus Johnson to Macomb County Circuit Court on a first-degree murder charge. His circuit court arraignment is scheduled for June 24.

The charges stem from an October 11, 2024, incident at Immanuel and Associates, located on the 41000 block of Executive Drive in Harrison Township. Johnson, a former employee of the company, is accused of entering the warehouse and fatally shooting 54-year-old Roger Palmer.

Johnson was initially arraigned on October 17, 2024, and has remained in custody at the Macomb County Jail since then. His bond is set at $5 million.

“No one should fear for their life at their job,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido in a statement. “Senseless violence has no place at any business or anywhere in Macomb County. We will pursue justice for the victim and ensure the defendant is held fully accountable under the law.”

If convicted, Johnson faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
