Three Cuban nationals residing in South Florida — Karina Sánchez, Darvin Morlote, and his son Kervin Morlote — have been arrested in Miami for their alleged involvement in a staged car accident designed to defraud insurance companies.

According to police sources cited by Telemundo 51, the trio faces charges of insurance fraud, grand theft, and staging an accident. The incident occurred on January 22 near Northwest 123rd Street and Seventh Avenue in North Miami.

Surveillance footage from a nearby parking lot revealed that the suspects met at the location hours before the alleged crash, supporting investigators’ theory that the collision was premeditated.

The vehicles involved — a 2020 gray Toyota Corolla and a 2000 silver Toyota Camry — were later used in the staged crash. Investigators also noted a suspicious move by Darvin Morlote, who modified his insurance policy just one day before the incident to include his son as a covered driver.

Both Darvin and Kervin Morlote filed injury claims following the crash, seeking a combined total of $68,926 for medical care and therapy. They reportedly received treatments at multiple Miami-area clinics, including Ocean Health Care Solutions, River Medical Center, Lago Medical Center, and Universal X-Rays — all of which billed thousands for services tied to the alleged accident.

Authorities are still investigating whether the clinics knowingly participated in the fraud or were unknowingly complicit. One of the clinics has reportedly been connected to a similar previous case.

Sánchez and the Morlotes remain detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK) in Miami-Dade County as the investigation continues. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional suspects or institutions being involved in the scheme.
