Karina Escobar Perez Pleads Guilty to Indiana Election Fraud

Illinois Woman Forged 530 Voter Signatures

by Sophia Bennett

Karina Escobar Perez pleaded guilty to felony election fraud on Friday, December 19, 2025, in St. Joseph County, Indiana.

Perez was accused of submitting 530 voter signatures to the county election and voter registration office in February 2024, in an effort to place Democratic candidate Dean Phillips on the Indiana Presidential Primary ballot. An investigation revealed that only 19 of the signatures were valid.

Court records indicate that Perez was hired by a contractor and admitted to receiving $5,000 to gather signatures over five days for Phillips’ campaign.

She now faces sentencing for her role in the fraudulent signature scheme, highlighting the legal consequences of tampering with election processes.
