MAMOU, La. — A teenage suspect has been arrested in connection with multiple burglaries in the Mamou area, according to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office (EPSO).
Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of Pine Point Road on May 1 following reports of a burglary in progress. The suspect had fled the scene on a bicycle, and deputies were given video footage to help with identification.
The suspect, later identified as Kari Lynn Viator, 18, of Mamou, was located hiding inside a shed. After a brief struggle, she was taken into custody.
A search of Viator’s backpack revealed stolen items traced to Acorn Road, where homeowners reported that two vehicles and a storage room had been broken into.
Viator was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on the following charges:
Two counts of simple burglary
Two counts of simple burglary of a vehicle
One count of theft under $1,000
One count of theft between $1,000 and $5,000
One count of resisting an officer
Authorities have not released any information regarding additional suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
