Las Vegas — A 63-year-old woman, Karen Cannon, has been formally charged in connection with a deadly hit-and-run incident that took the life of 32-year-old Patrick Deloriea on May 13.
Cannon made her first court appearance Thursday before Judge Suzan Baucum in Las Vegas Justice Court. She faces multiple charges, including reckless driving resulting in death, failing to stop at the scene of a crash, and destroying or concealing evidence.
According to court statements, Cannon allegedly tried to have her Tesla Model Y repaired at two separate body shops in an effort to conceal the damage from the collision. She told both shops she believed she had struck a coyote while driving back from California and chose not to file an insurance claim to avoid a premium increase.
One body shop reported seeing biological evidence on the windshield, prompting them to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Investigators later impounded the vehicle, where forensic analysts found hair and biological material consistent with the crash.
Cannon’s bail was set at $150,000, and she was ordered to undergo high-level electronic monitoring with a ban on driving. Her next court appearance is scheduled for June 10.
