Karauli police have cracked the murder case of 60-year-old Devi Sahay, arresting his wife Kusum (29), her lover Pintu Gurjar (30), his associate Shribhan alias Anil, and detaining a minor involved in the crime.
The victim’s body was recovered from a dry well near Bayana in Bharatpur district on Saturday, police said. SP Lokesh Sonwal revealed that Kusum conspired with her lover to eliminate her husband, who was an obstacle in their relationship.
Kusum’s marriage to Devi Sahay was reportedly arranged about eight years ago for Rs 5 lakh. The case came to light when the victim’s grandson, Sachin, filed a missing person complaint on August 21, accusing Kusum of involvement. He also recalled how Kusum had previously given sleeping pills to her husband and eloped thrice with Pintu, only to be brought back by family each time.
On the night of August 20, Kusum called Pintu and his associates waiting outside with a car. She convinced her husband to step out, pretending to have stomach pain. Pintu and Shribhan overpowered and strangled him with a towel. The body was dumped in a stone-covered well near Bhidawali village.
During interrogation, Kusum admitted her role and said her affair with Pintu began 2-3 years ago. The murder plan was made around 10 days prior. Shribhan’s confession corroborated the details.
The body was recovered with help from SDRF and Bayana police and handed over to the family after post-mortem.
Those arrested include Kusum, Pintu (alias Satendra), and Shribhan (alias Anil). A minor has also been detained for questioning.
