A routine patrol near Borivali East railway station led police to arrest Karan Singh Kharwar, a wanted jewellery thief. Officers from Kasturba Marg police station apprehended him and recovered cash, gold, and diamonds stolen from a Navi Mumbai shop on September 6. Kharwar will be handed over to Navi Mumbai Police for further investigation.
On September 6, Parasnath Jewellers in Kamothe, Navi Mumbai, reported a theft between 2 pm and 3 pm. The jeweller lost 78 tolas of gold, 18 diamonds, and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash. Kamothe police and the crime branch launched a joint investigation into the case.
Kharwar was intercepted at Borivali while trying to escape to his hometown in Rajasthan. Acting suspiciously with a bag, he was stopped by Kasturba Marg police. Upon checking, the stolen items were found inside the bag. Kharwar failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the possession of the goods.
Further investigations revealed that Kharwar had worked at Parasnath Jewellers just 10 days prior to the theft. He had gathered inside information and, when his employer stepped out for lunch, seized the opportunity to steal the valuables before fleeing.
