In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Punjab Police on Thursday arrested three alleged drug smugglers and seized 12.07 kg of heroin along with Rs 25.12 lakh in suspected drug and hawala money from Ferozepur district.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed the arrest of Karan Kumar alias Ghanni (22), Rohit Bhatti (24), and Aakashdeep alias Aakash (24)—all residents of Ferozepur. Karan Kumar and Aakashdeep have prior cases registered under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act.
Acting on intelligence, DIG Ferozepur Range Harmanbir Singh Gill said police intercepted the trio near Jodhia Nehra Pull, where they recovered 2.07 kg heroin and Rs 25.12 lakh from their Maruti Ertiga car used for drug transport.
Further interrogation of Karan Kumar led police to Rikhi Colony, where they discovered an additional 10 kg of heroin concealed behind a toilet seat at his rented accommodation.
Preliminary investigations suggest the accused were involved in cross-border drug trafficking, with suspected ties to Pakistan-based handlers who may have used drones to deliver drug consignments into India.
The Punjab Police continue to probe the network, aiming to trace the full chain of operatives involved in this international smuggling route.
