The Kapurthala police have arrested four suspects in connection with a high-profile theft at Sarafa Bazaar, Kapurthala. The operation was led by SSP Gaurav Toora, who confirmed the recovery of Rs 8 lakh, 3 kg of silver, 4.5 tola gold jewellery, and a Hyundai car (PB 05 AD 6468) used during the crime.

The primary accused, Joni alias Raju, a known criminal from Khatik Mandi, Cantonment Police Station, Ferozepur, was apprehended from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Amandeep Singh was arrested from Kangra on June 17. Two others, Parampal Singh alias Parma and Rahul Sharma, both residents of Mallanwala, Ferozepur, were also arrested for purchasing the stolen gold.

The theft took place on June 8 at Ajay Kumar’s shop near Lahori Gate. Around 4:10 AM, a group of 34 masked men broke into the shop, forcibly removing the iron safe containing valuables. The case was promptly registered at the Kapurthala city police station.

A dedicated police team, guided by SP Prabhjot Singh Virk and supported by technical intelligence, traced Joni to Mandi, leading to his arrest on June 15. Amandeep was detained soon after. Investigations revealed that the stolen gold and silver had been sold to local jewellers, who were subsequently arrested.

Joni has 20 prior theft cases registered across various districts. The suspects are set to be presented in court as further investigations continue to uncover more details.
