Kapurthala police have arrested Dalbir Singh alias Fitte and Mangal Singh in two separate drug trafficking cases, recovering significant quantities of banned substances under the NDPS Act, officials said.
In the first incident, police on routine patrol spotted a man near Fograwal Bridge on GT Road flyover after receiving a tip-off about someone selling intoxicants. The suspect, identified as Dalbir Singh from Fograwal village, attempted to flee but was overpowered. A search recovered 100 intoxicant tablets. A case under Sections 22, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered, and Dalbir Singh was taken into custody.
In a second case, police on patrol near the main gate area of Kapurthala noticed a young man discard a packet and try to escape. He was apprehended and identified as Mangal Singh, resident of Purani Dana Mandi. The packet contained 40 capsules of Pregabalin, a banned psychotropic drug. A case under relevant NDPS provisions was filed, and Mangal Singh was arrested on the spot.
Police confirmed that both arrests are part of ongoing efforts to crack down on drug trafficking in Kapurthala, and further investigation is underway to identify the sources and networks involved.
