Two separate immigration fraud cases have surfaced in Kapurthala, leading police to register FIRs against three individuals, including a couple and a travel agent, for cheating victims of large sums of money under the pretext of arranging foreign travel.
In the first case, Amandeep Singh from Toorna village accused Gunit Chawla and his wife Beeri Chawla of defrauding him of Rs 25 lakh by promising to facilitate his trip to the US. The couple neither arranged the travel nor returned the money.
In a similar case, Gurmeet Singh and his brother accused travel agent Jasvir Singh of Mandi Chhanna Fattudhinga village of cheating them out of Rs 12 lakh. Jasvir had promised to send them to Spain and Canada but failed to deliver and subsequently stopped responding.
Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
