The Special Branch of the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate has arrested Kaptan Singh, a drug peddler, during a special checking operation. The police seized 1 kilogram of opium from his possession.
Kaptan Singh, originally from Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, is currently residing in Dashmesh Nagar near Gill Chowk, Ludhiana.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Amandeep Singh Brar, the arrest took place near Dholewal when Singh attempted to flee upon seeing the police. However, the officers pursued him and successfully apprehended him. Upon searching him, the police recovered the 1 kg of opium.
A case under Sections 18, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Division Number 6 Police Station.
ADCP Brar further clarified that Singh has no prior criminal history. Investigations are ongoing as the police are probing his connections to both upstream and downstream operations in drug trafficking.
