In a swift breakthrough, Ghaziabad police have arrested four individuals involved in the July 24 daylight robbery at a jewellery shop in Brij Vihar, where robbers posed as food delivery staff to steal precious ornaments and cash.

The primary suspects, Kapil Kumar (33) and Manish Singh (30) — both residents of Loni — were intercepted near the Vasundhara underpass and sustained bullet injuries during a brief encounter with police. Acting on their interrogation, two more accused — Mohammad Mehtab (25) of Delhi and Deepu Tomar (30) from Haridwar — were arrested near ISBT Kaushambi.

According to ACP Shweta Yadav (Sahibabad circle), police scanned over 300 CCTV cameras across Ghaziabad and Delhi and tracked the suspects through electronic surveillance. The robbers, disguised as online food delivery agents, entered the shop around 3:30 PM on July 24.

Jeweller Krishna Kant Verma, in his FIR, stated that the masked duo fled with 20kg of silver, 125g of gold, and Rs20,000 in cash. Police later recovered 2.5kg of silver, 45g of gold, Rs65,000 cash, two pistols, cartridges, and the stolen bike used in the crime.

Investigators revealed the plan was hatched three days before the heist at Manish Singh’s residence. Robbers first fled to Haridwar, then to Bihar, selling some of the stolen items to accomplices Deepu Tomar and Jai Prakash Mahto of Samastipur. Three other suspects — Abhishek Kumar, Mannu Khan, and Jai Prakash — remain absconding.

Police teams have been dispatched to Uttarakhand and Bihar to make further arrests and recover the remaining stolen property.
