Police in Jagatpur Jattan village near Phagwara have arrested Kapil Dev and his son Gerry in connection with the murder of Sukhvinder Kumar (32), whose body was found in a well under mysterious circumstances on Friday evening.
According to the police, the deceased had left home on the evening of July 16 to attend to some work and was last seen outside his house with his elder brother, Bhupinder Singh. Sukhvinder had also reportedly spoken to Kapil Dev and his son over the phone that evening and was allegedly seen leaving with Gerry.
On July 17 at 8 pm, Gerry returned to Sukhvinder’s residence carrying his mobile phone and some personal belongings, claiming that Sukhvinder would be staying with him after completing his work. When the victim remained missing the following day, the family confronted Gerry, who allegedly led them to a nearby well on the property of Mehnga Singh, indicating that Sukhvinder’s body had been disposed of inside it. The police were immediately informed.
An FIR has been registered against Kapil Dev and Gerry under the murder charges. Both have been taken into custody, and the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Forensic teams are assisting in the investigation to determine the motive and establish the sequence of events leading to the murder.
