Kanpur: Police have arrested three accused in India, including Radhika, her niece Sanjna, and Juhi, in connection with a theft targeting commuters in e-autos.
The arrests relate to a March 9 incident, where jewellery worth around Rs15 lakh was stolen from a woman, Ranjana, a resident of Badshahi Naka. She was traveling with her two daughters to a wedding in Chakeri. Boarding an e-auto from Bhikharam Mishthan Bhandar, she discovered the theft near Ghantaghar Chauraha. The stolen items included a chain, necklace, ring, and anklet kept in her purse.
According to ADCP East Anjali Vishwakarma, police examined footage from 98 CCTV cameras to identify the suspect vehicle. Acting on a tip-off, authorities cordoned off the Ghantaghar area on Thursday and arrested the e-auto driver Shariq along with Radhika, Sanjna, and Juhi in India from CPC Maal Godam.
During interrogation, the accused admitted their involvement and also revealed the names of two other e-rickshaw drivers allegedly involved in similar crimes.
Police noted that Radhika has a prior criminal history with four cases registered against her. Her husband, Gopi, is absconding, and authorities are working to locate him. Investigation continues to identify other gang members and recover stolen property.
