In a significant breakthrough, the Kanpur Cyber Crime Branch has successfully dismantled a fake overseas job racket, leading to the arrest of four individuals involved in defrauding job seekers with false promises of employment abroad.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Hariom Pandey, Anurag Dixit, Ariba Ansari, and Kirti Gupta. According to officials, the gang operated by enticing individuals with offers of high-paying jobs in foreign countries. They then extorted money from the victims under various pretexts, such as application fees, processing charges, and visa expenses.
During the operation, the police recovered significant digital evidence, including three laptops, nine smartphones, 14 keypad mobile phones, eight mobile SIM cards, a Jio Wi-Fi router, two bank passbooks, seven debit cards, and a Hyundai Verna car. These items were part of the gang’s extensive fraud operation.
The arrests were made possible through the swift action and collaboration of the Kanpur Cyber Crime Police Station officers, including Sunil Kumar Verma, Sub-Inspectors Puneet Tomar and Harendra Tomar, Head Constables Ajay Pratap and Jitendra Kumar, Constable Nitin Kumar, and Lady Constable Soni Yadav. Their combined efforts were instrumental in apprehending the suspects and bringing an end to the fraudulent operation.
This case underscores the rising threat of cyber-enabled job frauds in India, as more individuals fall victim to fraudulent schemes targeting job seekers. Police have urged the public to stay vigilant about job offers that seem too good to be true and report any suspicious activities to the cyber crime helpline for swift action.
