Kanpur’s Crime Branch, in coordination with Hanumant Vihar police, has arrested Vishal Singh Sisodiya (23), the owner of M/s Sisodiya Medicine House, for allegedly selling codeine-based cough syrup illegally, a senior official confirmed on Tuesday.
The arrest comes as part of a wider Uttar Pradesh investigation into the illicit trade and stockpiling of codeine syrups—a network reportedly worth hundreds of crores and extending beyond state borders.
Sisodiya had been evading authorities for nearly four months since a complaint by a drug inspector led to a case on November 5. Investigators found that he procured and sold large quantities of the restricted codeine syrup, FancyPic-T, without maintaining proper records, indicating its diversion into illegal channels.
