The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has arrested Abdullahi Mohammed, the chairman of Kiru Local Government Area, over allegations of land fraud. The case involves the illegal sale of land worth over N100 million, originally designated for the Kafin Maiyaki mini-stadium.
PCACC Investigation and Findings
According to PCACC’s findings, proceeds from the fraudulent sale were deposited directly into Mohammed’s personal account. Kabir Kabir, the commission’s public relations officer, revealed that the land was purchased by a company called Mahasum.
Further investigations uncovered that between November 1, 2024—when Mohammed assumed office—and February 27, 2025, his account received deposits totaling N240 million. The anti-corruption agency has successfully recovered the full amount and is now working to trace all individuals involved in the illicit transaction.
Mohammed is said to be cooperating with investigators, who are trying to establish the full scope of the fraud and hold all responsible parties accountable.
Wider Anti-Corruption Efforts
Mohammed’s arrest is part of a broader crackdown on corruption within Kano’s local government structures. Other recent cases include:
The arrest of three Nassarawa Local Government officials for allegedly diverting N105 million from a government program.
The detention of 15 suspects linked to a N20 billion land scam, involving multiple individuals, including lawyers and officials from the state Ministry of Land.
The PCACC has vowed to continue its fight against corruption, ensuring that public funds are used for their intended purposes.
