Kannada actress Ranya Rao was detained at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on March 3 for allegedly attempting to smuggle gold. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials confiscated 14.8 kg of gold from her after her arrival from Dubai.
Ranya had been under DRI’s radar due to her frequent overseas trips. The actress reportedly concealed most of the gold discreetly on her body, including hiding gold bars within her clothing.
What has raised eyebrows further is that Ranya is the daughter of a high-ranking DGP officer in Karnataka. Authorities are now investigating whether she had any law enforcement backing. Preliminary findings suggest that upon her arrival, she would often identify herself as the DGP’s daughter and would contact local police for assistance, asking for an escort home.
