The Kandivali police have arrested Sabir Mohammad Hadish Ali, a 33-year-old artisan, for allegedly stealing Rs 9.39 lakh from the house of his employer, Riyaz Ahmed Sheikh, who operates an imitation jewellery business.

Ali had been employed by Sheikh for 15 years. The incident took place when Sheikh, trusting his employees, left his house unlocked while attending a wedding in Sewri with his family. He had stored Rs 9 lakh, which he received from his nephew’s house sale, along with an additional Rs 39,000, in a bag under his bed.

When Sheikh returned on February 5 and checked the bag, he found the money missing. After questioning his employees, Sheikh grew suspicious when Ali abruptly left for his village. Sheikh filed a complaint, prompting a police investigation.

On February 14, Ali was arrested after confessing to the crime during interrogation. He remains in custody, and efforts are underway to recover the stolen amount.
