Kanchana Arrested for Stealing Gold in Wang Burapha

Temporary gold shop worker caught stealing 6 baht of gold

by Sophia Bennett

A temporary employee at a gold shop in Bangkok’s Wang Burapha area, 28-year-old Kanchana (also known as Nam Petch), was arrested on June 12 for allegedly stealing gold jewellery weighing 6 baht, valued at over 300,000 baht.

The arrest came three days after an arrest warrant was issued by the Criminal Court on June 9, following a complaint filed by the gold shop. Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Metropolitan Police Bureau Commissioner, and Police Major General Napasin Poolsawat, Deputy Commissioner overseeing the case, confirmed the capture.

Kanchana was trialling as a sales assistant at the shop on May 21, handling sales of gold bars and jewellery priced according to the Gold Traders Association. However, she disappeared the day after her trial period ended, prompting the shop to report missing gold.

CCTV footage revealed she stole four 96.5% pure gold necklaces—two bracelets weighing 2 baht each and two weighing 1 baht each—with a total value of 312,600 baht (approx. US$9,640).

After receiving a tip-off that Kanchana was in Soi Phet Kasem 2, Bangkok Yai district, police arrested her at approximately 7:30 a.m. Upon being presented with the warrant, she admitted her identity and was taken to the Phra Ratchawang Police Station for processing.

The case is now with investigators for further legal action, as reported by KhaoSod.
