Kanadia police on Tuesday arrested two notorious burglars linked to the infamous Somla Gang of Bori, Alirajpur. The gang, known for targeting outer residential colonies near the bypass area, conducted daytime reconnaissance and committed burglaries at night. Authorities recovered stolen goods valued at approximately Rs 2.4 lakh from the accused, who face multiple cases of burglary, robbery, and dacoity.
Additional DCP Amrendra Singh stated that the breakthrough came following a complaint by Shiv Singh Bhadoria regarding a theft at the official residence of his daughter, CID Inspector Kirti Bhadoria. After returning from a Mathura-Vrindavan trip on May 18, she discovered the lock broken and valuable items stolen, including gold jewellery, silver anklets, mobile phones, pen drives, and Rs 80,000 in cash.
After intensifying night patrols, reviewing CCTV footage, and traditional investigations, police arrested Sardaan alias Sardan Mehada, 22, from Bori on May 28. His interrogation led to the arrest of main accused Shivraj Singh Baghel, 21, from Badi Kadwal, on June 3. Shivraj revealed the gang’s modus operandi involved scouting colonies by day and striking at night, often using sharp cutters and iron tools to break locks.
A third accomplice, Balwantsingh Baghel, is still absconding. The gang operated from a rented room near Teen Imli Bus Stand in Indore and admitted to spending stolen money on luxury goods and clothing. Recovered items include gold and silver jewellery, mobile phones, and property linked to an earlier Khandwa case.
Police continue efforts to apprehend Balwantsingh and further investigate the gang’s activities.
