Kanpur police arrested Kamal Sharma (33) and co-accused Mohit Sharma (22) on Tuesday in connection with the brutal murder of Rahul Awasthi, under Section 103(1) BNS at Govindnagar police station.
The arrests were made by special police teams operating under the directions of the Police Commissionerate, Kanpur Nagar, and supervision of the Station House Officer, Govindnagar, with support from informers and surveillance units to prevent further incidents in the area.
On Monday, authorities received information about a naked male body being attacked by dogs at Nirala Nagar Railway Ground. The body was identified as Rahul Awasthi, aided by a motorcycle found nearby. After completing panchnama proceedings, the body was sent for post-mortem.
Following a complaint by the deceased’s father, an FIR was registered, naming Rahul’s friend Kamta as an accused. After an extensive search, police located Kamal Sharma and Mohit Sharma. During interrogation, they confessed to taking Rahul to the Railway Ground on Sunday night, stripping him, beating him with a belt, and smashing his head with a brick before attempting to hide the weapon.
Based on the accused’s tip-off, police recovered the murder weapon (brick) and the blood-stained clothes of the accused. They admitted that the motive for the crime was that Rahul allegedly humiliated them repeatedly. Sections 238/61(2) BNS were added to the FIR based on evidence.
Thanks to swift police action, the Kanpur authorities solved this brutal murder case within 12 hours. Further legal proceedings are ongoing.
