In a special operation targeting drug activity in Kalyan, local police arrested three individuals—including a woman—on charges of possessing and selling ganja. The arrests, made on May 12, involved Pratham Gaikwad, Gopal Bhide, and Shahnaz Irani, all residents of Kalyan. Over 1 kilogram of ganja was seized from their possession in three separate cases.
The Kalyan police received a tip-off about individuals engaged in the illegal sale of ganja in the area. Acting swiftly, a trap was set by officers from the Kolsewadi, Khadakpada, and Bazarpeth police stations, resulting in the apprehension of the suspects. Following the arrests, three FIRs were lodged against the accused.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Kalyanji Ghete, under the guidance of DCP Atul Zende, confirmed that the special drive against drug activity was part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking across Kalyan Dombivli. The suspects were presented in court and remanded into police custody for further investigation.
Authorities are working to trace the source of the seized drugs, and further investigations are ongoing.
