ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 23-year-old Cantonment man, Kaleb Jernigan, was arrested on July 19 following a chaotic series of events that included an uninvited home entry, petit theft, shots fired, and allegations of false imprisonment.
According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a disturbance on the 900 block of Candy Lane after neighbors reported shots fired and detained a man acting erratically.
Witnesses said Jernigan appeared to be under the influence and had been “acting crazy all day.” EMS cleared him on the scene with no medical needs.
Authorities say the situation began when Jernigan entered a neighbor’s yard and stole a weed eater. Although the neighbor recovered the item and asked him to leave, Jernigan allegedly stayed on the property.
The situation escalated when another neighbor heard yelling from inside his home. He found the front door locked and saw Jernigan inside, blocking his wife’s exit. The woman stated that Jernigan entered uninvited while she was in the kitchen, stood close to her, and prevented her from leaving.
Though no one was physically harmed, Jernigan was taken into custody and now faces charges of:
Kidnapping
False imprisonment
Burglary of an occupied dwelling
Petit theft
Jernigan remains in the Escambia County Jail without bond as the investigation continues.
